roadtrippin’ pt ii

The second day on the road was definitely harder than the first. At breakfast Will and I decided we wanted to go to the Albuquerque LDS Temple before we hit the road. Despite some of the hiccups we had trying to arrange that (like Will having no church clothes with him), it ended up being a really wonderful experience and so worth it! We got on the road a little bit later than expected after we spent over 20 minutes looking for a gas station. At said gas station we also had to buy a block of cream cheese for the bagels we had because we forgot the flavored cream cheese at home (face palm). It wasn’t even 11am yet. The best part of this whole experience was that I had opened a fortune cookie two weeks ago that read, “Be prepared to modify your plan. It will be good for you!”. Will totally dissed this fortune and can we all just agree that someone was definitely wrong here and it wasn’t me?!(;

The route we took goes through Moab and Arches National Park. WHAT A COOL PLACE. Seriously. If you find yourself anywhere near Moab, GO! We spent barely any time there, but the beauty around that whole area is unreal. We drove through on a Tuesday evening around 5 or 6 o’clock and the park was open so we didn’t even have to pay to get in (score!). We took some pictures by the Balanced Rock which is so so cool. I quickly remembered how much I had missed Utah and how glad I am to be back. I think we were both sad when we took the Provo exit and the trip was officially over and college real world stuff started. Despite all of the “oh my gosh are you kidding me” moments, I wouldn’t have traded any second of it. There’s no better feeling than being back on campus getting ready for Fall Term! Can’t wait to see what this semester has in store!

The first four hours of the drive flew by! It’s crazy how much more enjoyable road trips are when you’re laughing and singing and having fun. As soon as we got to Albuquerque we found a delicious burger joint (the best in town, apparently), called The Grill on Menaul Blvd. My veggie burger was quite tasty and Will’s regular burger was super good! I found myself mixing ketchup and mayonnaise (the two main ingredients for Utah’s “fry sauce”) and couldn’t help but laugh at how I’m one of those crazy Utahn’s now. Ha! You also get free chips and salsa with your meal, so win win! We rounded out our Monday with lots of shopping at ABQ Uptown (seriously if you haven’t been yet, you have to go), a walk around the LDS temple, some random fast food purchases (insert Taco Bell’s Mountain Dew Baja Blast pictured below… thanks Will!) and dinner at 10pm with the friend who let us crash his couch. So many laughs and good times. Now, on to Utah!
